World’s Best Places to Visit Month-to-Month

Best Destinations to Visit in January

1. Dublin, Ireland

Dublin in January is a real treat.

While there’s definitely a chill in the air, that cool temperature just gives you a great excuse to pop into a cozy pub and maybe have a pint of their world-famous Guinness.

The city’s got some awesome historic sites (ever heard of the Book of Kells)?

And while you’re at it, check out Temple Bar. Not too touristy this time of year, and just lively enough!

2. Stockholm, Sweden

Stockholm’s winter vibe in January? Totally underrated. It’s a great place to experience what a Nordic winter feels like without it being too intense.

The historic Gamla Stan, with its narrow streets and old-world charm, feels even more authentic in the cool temperatures.

And hey, the Swedes know their coffee, so make sure to get your caffeine fix in one of the local cafés.

3. Barcelona, Spain

Okay, this city is one of my favorite places to go in August for an end of summer getaway. But Barcelona in January is possibly Spain’s best-kept secret!

Not too many tourists around, and the weather’s decently mild.

It’s pretty awesome to stroll around without the summer crowd. Visit historic sites such as the Gothic Quarter or just chill at a tapas bar in the city center.

And if you’re up for a bit of a hike, Montjuïc Hill offers some killer views.

February

4. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Rio’s epic Carnival celebrations in February are just the beginning of what makes this beautiful city one of the best places to travel in the world.

There’s Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, that famous Christ the Redeemer, and don’t forget the green wonderland that is Tijuca National Park.

And the nightlife? Samba your way through streets alive with rhythm!

5. Hanoi, Vietnam

I’ve found that February is the ideal time to delve into Hanoi’s charms.

Dive into the city center, the famous Old Quarter, where streets buzz with life, and serenity can be found by the Hoan Kiem Lake.

From French colonial landmarks to vibrant markets and those mouthwatering pho stalls, it’s a good time to discover what the city has to offer.

And it’s one of my favorite destinations for solo female travel in Southeast Asia!

6. Seychelles

February is a shoulder season in Seychelles, offering all the best of the West African island country without the crowds.

You’ll enjoy perfect weather, beautiful beaches, turquoise waters, and unique granite rock formations.

For nature lovers looking for an escape with fewer crowds, Seychelles is your idyllic haven under the sun.

Walk behind Seljalandsfoss waterfall in Iceland, on a partly cloudy day with green fields in the distance.

World’s Best Travel Destinations for March

7. Reykjavik, Iceland

Without a doubt, a major reason you’ll want to visit Reykjavik is the chance to see the Northern Lights. And March is still in the window of the best time to do this!

But let’s dive deeper (literally). How about snorkeling between 2 continents at the Silfra Fissure?

Or maybe just kick back and soak in the soothing Blue Lagoon. Reykjavik’s more than just its lights, you know!

It’s easy to see why Iceland is the #1 spot on my list of bucket list adventures!

8. Melbourne, Australia

As the southern hemisphere transitions into autumn, Melbourne’s vibes come alive.

It’s genuinely one of the best months to visit, with hipster cafes, art-filled alleyways, and the famous laneways beckoning every traveler.

The fewer crowds in March make it a great time to genuinely immerse yourself in this city’s culture and coffee scene.

And for sports enthusiasts, the Australian Grand Prix in March is a treat for Formula 1 fans!

9. Cartagena, Colombia

March in Cartagena is the stuff of Caribbean dreams. It’s one of the best months to explore this coastal gem when there are fewer tourists.

The old walled city, with its tales of pirates and colonialists, is a haven for nature lovers looking for a historical twist.

You can wander through cobbled streets, past colorful colonial homes, and indulge in fresh seafood.

With the pleasant weather, it’s also a great time to take a boat trip to the nearby Rosario Islands for some sun and snorkeling.

April

10. Amsterdam, Netherlands

By April, Amsterdam is bursting with colors as its famous tulips are in full bloom! But this amazing city is so much more than it’s pretty flowers.

You can dive into its vast canal system, take a visit to the Anne Frank House, and wander through its top-notch museums!

Oh, and do yourself a favor: rent a bike and experience the city like everyone else does.

And Giethoorn, Netherlands makes the perfect day trip or a great budget-friendly adventure travel destination on its own!

11. Zion National Park, United States

Without a doubt, Zion is one of the most beautiful places to visit in the world, no matter when you visit.

But April is your sweet spot, sidestepping that intense summer heat. Hike through some of nature’s finest and discover the iconic park’s red rock cliffs and emerald pools.

And as night blankets the park, get ready for a stargazing session that’ll redefine your definition of a starry sky.

12. Lisbon, Portugal

Let Lisbon lure you in this April. From its sun-kissed streets to its picturesque tram rides, Lisbon is Europe’s underrated gem.

Wander through its historic neighborhoods, let the melodies of Fado tug at your heartstrings, and don’t even get me started on the pastéis de nata (you’ll want more than one!).

13. San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua

San Juan Del Sur isn’t just a place. It’s an experience. As the rainy season gently kicks in, the town sparkles with a fresh, green vibe.

Ready for a blend of surfing waves, zip-lining across forests, and evenings spent in quaint beach bars? Here’s where you find it all.

Another favorite Nicaraguan city of mine is Granada, which you can read all about here.

Best Places to Travel in the World: May

14. Marrakech, Morocco

Ever been to a place where every sight, sound, and smell feels like a story? That’s Marrakech for you.

Get lost (literally) in the medina, find some peace at Jardin Majorelle, and trust me, that buzzing Djemaa el-Fna square? It’s an experience you won’t forget.

Oh, and don’t even get me started on the Saadian Tombs, where you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time.

15. Sri Lanka

May is when Sri Lanka’s East Coast starts drying off. You can spend your days sunbathing on stunning beaches without a care in the world!

But if you’re feeling adventurous, the interiors are lush, wild, and absolutely gorgeous, too.

Monkeys, elephants, birds… It’s like walking into a real-life nature documentary.

16. Grand Canyon, United States

Want a pro travel tip? Check out the Grand Canyon in May.

You get all the jaw-dropping views without having to elbow your way through summer tourists!

Whether you’re hiking, driving, or just soaking in those epic vistas, you’ll know why it’s such a big deal.

17. South Island, New Zealand

If you’re seeking a perfect blend of natural drama and tranquil beauty, May’s your month for the South Island.

The trees are exploding in autumn colors, turning it into a real-life fairytale destination. But it’s not just about the views!

Enjoy crisp morning walks in Queenstown, mirrored lakes in Wanaka, and some of the world’s finest Pinot Noir in the Central Otago region. Sound tempting?

June

18. Santorini, Greece

Looking for the perfect summer getaway? If you don’t mind some company, Santorini in June boasts warm weather, long days, and cheap accommodations.

And you know how everyone always raves about Santorini sunsets? Well, they’re not exaggerating.

But hold on, there are also ancient ruins like Akrotiri, beaches with volcanic vibes, and wineries that’ll have you raising your glass to say “Yamas!” in no time.

Discover for yourself why Santorini is one of the best places to travel the world in June!

 19. French Polynesia

Imagine a place all about sunshine, crystal-clear waters, and those “pinch-me-I’m-dreaming” kind of beaches.

Whether you’re snorkeling among vibrant corals or just lounging with a good book, French Polynesia is it, my friend.

20. San Francisco, United States

Ah, summer in San Francisco. Ever been on a cable car with a cool breeze in your hair? Or found a new favorite dish in a tucked-away eatery in Chinatown?

From the hippie vibes of Haight-Ashbury to fresh sourdough by the bay, SF in June is a treat.

But don’t fret if June is out of the question, SF gets another mention down below!

21. Big Island, Hawaii

The Big Island of Hawaii isn’t just big on name; it’s big on experiences. Whether you’re riding the waves or digging into some local luaus, there’s never a dull moment here.

July

22. Vancouver, Canada

23. New Orleans, United States

Yes, New Orleans makes my list of the best places to travel in the world for July. Just, here me out.

July in New Orleans is kinda warm, but that’s just another reason to duck into an art gallery or treat yourself to some mouth-watering Creole goodness. Plus, you’re missing out on the spring crowds.

And the music? Jazz here isn’t just music; it’s a whole mood.

24. Cape Town, South Africa

Imagine waking up to views of Table Mountain and then spending your day watching whales doing their thing. Yup, that’s Cape Town in July for you.

And don’t even get me started on those scenic drives where every turn feels like a postcard!

25. Banff National Park, Canada

If there’s ever a time to visit Banff National Park, it’s July.

Think warm sunny days, trails that look straight out of a fantasy book, and spotting wildlife that’ll make you go, “Did I just see that?!”

And after all the exploring, how about unwinding in a hot spring with the Canadian Rockies as your backdrop? Bliss.

26. Zanzibar, Tanzania

Truly, Zanzibar is more than just a cool name. Sure, the beaches are out of a dream, but did you know about the aromatic spice plantations? Yup! It’s a sensory overload.

Then there’s the whole Stone Town that’s straight from a history book and stamped by UNESCO.

And, if you’re lucky, you might spot a red colobus monkey at the Jozani Forest!

27. Canary Islands, Spain

Picture this: August, you, golden dunes, and the most otherworldly volcanic terrains.

It’s a win-win for beach bums and adventurous spirits. Canary Islands are kinda showing off, and honestly, who can blame them?

28. Puerto Rico

Tropical paradise? Check. Sunny days that seem endless? Check.

Puerto Rico in August is all about living life in vibrant color.

From the lively festivals to the rich history of Old San Juan and a bay that literally glows at night.

If you’re a nature lover, the El Yunque rainforest is like a green wonderland.

29. Sri Lanka (worthy of round 2)

Sri Lanka in August is both a cultural triangle and like time-traveling to ancient times.

First, you’ve got ruins, the epic Sigiriya rock fortress (trust me, it’s Insta-worthy).

And if you’re there at the right time, the Esala Perahera Festival in Kandy is like nothing you’ve ever seen!

A peaceful scene in Munich featuring the stoic Bavarian Lion sculpture and the city's architecture.

September

30. Munich, Germany

You’ve heard about Oktoberfest, right? But Munich? Oh, there’s so much more to it!

It’s like a history lesson come alive, with places like Nymphenburg Palace just waiting for your visit.

And if you need a chill spot to unwind, the English Garden is like a big green hug in the middle of the city.

31. Grand Canyon, United States (worthy of round 2)

Picture the Grand Canyon, but without the tourists getting in your perfect shot. September is the sweet spot.

Cooler temperatures make hiking and river rafting a dream. Plus, you get to see this epic wonder kind of on your own terms.

32. French Polynesia (worthy of round 2)

If you’ve dreamt of diving into impossibly clear lagoons and staying in one of those fancy overwater bungalows, now’s the time.

Tourists? Not so many around. And the marine life? It’s like they’re waiting just for you. Plus, the Polynesian culture? You’ll be swaying to their tunes in no time.

33. Buenos Aires, Argentina

Hands down, one of the best places to travel in the world for spring pleasure is Buenos Aires. Mi corazon!

The whole city feels alive. You might even catch an impromptu tango session on a street corner.

When it comes to food, oh boy, get ready to treat your taste buds. And it’s one of my top slow travel destinations if you’re looking for some R&R.

Best Places to Travel in the World: October

34. New England, USA

By far, the best time to visit anywhere in New England is the month of October.

Do yourself a favor and drive down the Kancamagus Highway. It’s like an Instagram post waiting to happen!

And if you’re up for an epic fall hike, there’s the Appalachian Trail.

Oh, and those apple cider donuts? Life-changing, especially from the little orchards that look straight out of a postcard.

I have a whole post dedicated to the best fall foliage spots in the United States, if you’re curious.

35. New York City, USA

Everyone thinks NYC is all about those skyscrapers, but have you hung out in Central Park in the fall? It’s like walking through a painting.

If you’re an art buff or just looking to stay warm, Chelsea’s art galleries are where it’s at.

Plus, as the average temperature starts playing nice, you can actually enjoy being outdoors without melting or freezing!

36. San Francisco, United States (worthy of round 2)

October in San Fran is a whole different vibe.

The summer tourists have packed up, so you can really take in spots like the Golden Gate Bridge or those spooky tales from Alcatraz.

And if you’re up for a scenic drive, the Pacific Coast Highway is calling your name.

37. Bryce Canyon, United States

Picture this: those wild, red rock formations of Bryce, all lit up in the fall sunlight. It’s something else.

The days are perfect for hiking, and come night, you won’t believe how many stars pop out. The cooler temperatures just make everything feel… right.

38. Chiang Mai, Thailand

You know, I always thought Chiang Mai was all about that cool lantern festival. But, there’s so much more

Like the Doi Inthanon National Park – nature really outdid itself there. And those ancient temples? A history buff’s dream.

Oh, and the night markets? Foodie paradise, without a doubt.

While you’re planning, check out these must-have items for your Southeast Asia adventure!

39. Canary Islands, Spain (worthy of round 2)

I had to mention the Canary Islands again.

I mean, picture this: while most of the northern hemisphere is pulling out winter jackets, the Canary Islands are still serving up beach weather.

Tenerife, one of the islands, has this wild spot called Teide National Park. It’s like walking on another planet. For my fellow nature lovers, it’s an absolute treat.

40. Tamil Nadu, India

Ever thought about visiting India in November? Tamil Nadu’s the place to be. Between the historic temples and vibrant festivals, there’s never a dull moment.

This destination is still on my bucket list! And regarding food, my other travel buddies say you haven’t truly tasted Indian cuisine until you’ve tried the South.

41. Costa Rica

I’ve got a little secret. If you head to Costa Rica as the dry season starts, you’re in for a treat.

Less rain means more time for some of the best things to do in Costa Rica.

You can watch sea turtles do their thing, explore the forests, or just chill on the beach without getting drenched!

December

42. Lapland, Finland

Snow lovers shouldn’t hesitate when it comes to Finland. It’s one of the best places to travel in the world to embrace the cold.

Rovaniemi in Lapland is basically the North Pole without the elves. It’s where Santa kicks back!

Looking for something different this holiday season? Read about Finland in my post on unique holiday traditions around the world.

If you’re up for it, try husky sledding or go on a snowmobile tour. And, if you’re really looking to chill, nothing beats a sauna under the stars. Just saying.

43. French Polynesia (worthy of round 2)

French Polynesia in December is like that perfect day at the beach, but all month long.

Dive into those picture-perfect lagoons, get up close with some cool marine life, or just kick back on a beach. Your call!

44. South Island, New Zealand (worthy of round 2)

Now, December in the South Island? Absolute best road trip weather.

It’s easy to see why this island nation is considered one of the most beautiful destinations in the world. I couldn’t get over the drive (wow moments at every corner).

You’ve got those stunning fjords on one side and beaches on the other. And the Southern Alps? Breathtaking!

If you have some time to spare, pop over to the Great Barrier Reef. The underwater world there? Mind-blowing.

45. Aurora Borealis in Norway

I mean, Finland’s northern lights are spectacular, no doubt. But Tromsø in Norway? It’s like the universe is putting on a light show just for you.
